TPF Poultry Member, Foster Farms Expands Plant, Adds Jobs

August 24, 2017 - Foster Farms will invest $30 million to expand and upgrade its poultry processing plant in Farmerville, La., and has begun hiring employees to fill 50 new positions, the company and Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards announced.

The investment will modernize the facility’s cut-up and deboning departments, according to the statement. Foster Farms anticipates all new jobs will be filled, the capital equipment installed and the project completed by October.

The company will receive a $500,000 Modernization Tax Credit and is expected to use the state’s Industrial Tax Exemption Program. The project will retain 1,092 existing jobs, in addition to creating 50 new jobs, for a total annual payroll of $34.8 million in Union Parish, the announcement said.

“Foster Farms is expanding its Farmerville operation to allow for future growth and flexibility of customer mix, as well as greater efficiency in its fresh chicken operations,” Chief Executive Laura Flanagan said.

Foster Farms acquired the former Pilgrim’s Pride facility in 2009 and invested $100 million, with financial assistance from the state, to complete improvements and rebuild inventory.
