Wayne Farms Announces Transition to New CEO

Wayne Farms announced J. Clinton Rivers becomes its CEO effective April 1, replacing Elton Maddox who led the company as CEO for 21 years and will now assume the role of executive chairman and continue to serve as chairman of the Wayne Farms board of managers.  

The transition is part of a planned succession that began with Rivers’ promotion to chief operating officer in April 2014.

American to Eat 1.33 Billion Chicken Wings for Super Bowl

Washington, D.C. - January 25, 2017 - Americans’ consumption of the unofficial staple of Super Bowl Sunday – the chicken wing – is projected to hit 1.33 billion wings, according to a National Chicken Council (NCC) annual report.

NCC’s 2017 Wing Report, released today, estimates that Americans will eat 1.33 billion wings during Super Bowl LI weekend, as the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots battle for the Lombardi Trophy.  That figure is up 2 percent, or 30 million wings, from 2016's report  – and up 6.5 percent, or 80 million wings, from 2015's report – revealing a steadily growing love for America’s favorite Super Bowl menu item.

NCC Statement on Reports that Former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue to be nominated for USDA Secretary

WASHINGTON, D.C. - January 18, 2017 - National Chicken Council President Mike Brown released the following statement in response to reports that former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue was to be nominated to lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture:

University of Minnesota Releases Study on Airborne Dissemination of H5N2 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus

A research team at the University of Minnesota (UM), College of Veterinary Medicine recently published on studies conducted to determine the extent of dissemination of avian influenza virus from infected flocks.*

Springdale's Whitbeck Labs Celebrates Grand Opening

Butterball Makes Two Executive Appointments

Garner, N.C.-based Butterball has promoted Jay Jandrain to chief operating officer, following the retirement of Joe Nalley, who led the company’s operations for 10 years. The company also announced Al Jansen has been promoted to executive vice president of sales, Jandrain’s prior role. 

Arkansas Farm Bureau Announces Inductees to the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame

Former State Senator, Neely Cassady of Nashville, AR. will be one of five inductees into the Arkansas Agriculture Hall of Fame.  Cassady operated a hatchery for many years, establishing an integration which eventually was incorporated into Tyson Foods.  He served for 14 years in the Arkansas State Senate and is a past president of the Arkansas Poultry Federation and was a member of the Board of Directors of Tyson Foods.
