Crow Group, Inc. of Morrilton, AR was recently awarded a contract for the construction of a new greenfield water treatment plant capable of producing 15 million gallons (about 56,781,150 L) of water per day (MGD) by the City of Hot Springs Board of Directors. The project will consist of the construction of a 27,000-sf water treatment train along with a 5,500-sf administration and laboratory building.
The almost $35 million dollar treatment plant project is the largest contract of the broader $110 million Lake Ouachita Water Supply Project that has been designed and engineered by Crist Engineers of Little Rock. Unique to this project is that once constructed, it will prove to be especially interesting in that the facility has been designed to look like a barn. Or “water barn” in this instance!

According to Bill Burrough, Hot Springs city manager, this project will help expand not only the city’s but also the county's water use. He said the city realized in 2012 that they needed to expand their water supply. During that year, there were several days where they exceeded 80% of their supply. "We have over eight million visitors a year that come, over three million overnight stays so having an ample supply of water, not only for our visitors but residents, is extremely important," Burrough said
