Avian Pathologists Launch New Book to Help Identify Diseases

A new book published this week by the American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) aims to offer assistance to anyone involved in the diagnosis of avian diseases,

according to the international professional organization.

“Gross Pathology of Avian Diseases: Text and Atlas” offers descriptions and pictures of gross lesions organized by the various diseases that affect birds worldwide. While the majority of the photos have been taken in situ to show how the lesions appear at necropsy, the descriptions also include etiology, clinical signs, pathogenesis of the disease process and transmission of infectious agents, the AAAP said. The book covers more than 120 avian diseases and features more than 1,200 high-quality graphics.

The authors include Tasheen Abdul-Aziz from the North Carolina Dept. of Agriculture and Consumer Services and H. John Barnes of North Carolina State University, both based in Raleigh, N.C. The AAAP is making the book available through its website at a cost of $125 per copy.
