Little Rock, AR – The Poultry Federation (TPF) presented David Elam of Wayne Farms with the 2018 Industry Leader of the Year Award at the 59th Annual Poultry Festival held June 15-16 in Rogers, Arkansas.
David has been involved in the poultry industry for over 40 years. He has worked for at least 4 major poultry companies and has managed hundreds of people for the sixth largest vertically integrated poultry producer in the US, with annual sales exceeding $1.9 billion.
David has managed a complex, handled complex legal issues with municipal water and wastewater companies, bought a feed mill, ran a railroad, oversaw employee housing and sat thru a complex donning and doffing court case and never once complained about his job.
He has served multiple terms on The Poultry Federation Board of Directors, on the Arkansas State Plant Board and the Arkansas Department of Agriculture Board. He served as the TPF Festival Chairman in 2015 and was the Chairman of the Federation’s Board of Directors from 2015-2016. David also served as the Ex-Officio Chairman of TPF’s Board of Directors from 2016-2017.
Elam recently retired as the Complex Manager for Wayne Farms Danville Arkansas complex. He is married to Mary Jo Elam and they have two sons, Eric and Brad and 5 grandchildren. David and Mary Jo reside in Centerton, Arkansas.
The Industry Leader of the Year Award is presented by The Poultry Federation to recognize the outstanding achievements of poultry and egg business executives as well as their contributions to the industry. The award has been presented to 65 individuals since 1955. The 2018 award was presented by the TPF’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jim Smith of Keith Smith Company.
