Vaughn E. King of Aviagen, Inc. was named the “2010 Sales Representative of the Year” by The Poultry Federation of Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma on June 11 during the association’s 51st Annual Poultry Festival held in Rogers, AR. This award has been presented annually by The Poultry Federation since 1968 and is based on the nominee’s involvement and support of the association and the industry.
Born in Salisbury, Maryland, Vaughn King was introduced to agriculture at an early age by working for his grandparents who owned a large sweet potato farm with packing houses for the local farmers. He continued this interest by graduating from the University of Maryland with a degree in Agricultural Economics. His first position after graduating was with Cargill in the Delaware operation in the processing plant. He quickly recognized that his interest was in grow- out, and took a position at Perdue Farms as a service man. Here he learned many areas of the poultry business from housing, field research, to grow out manager for the Delaware Complex. In 1986, he relocated to Jacksonville, Florida to be Agricultural Manager for Cargill. The next phase of his career drew him into the primary breeding business at Hubbard when he moved to Arkansas in 1989 to become western sales manager. He eventually became the vice president of Hubbard. In 2004, he joined the sales staff at Aviagen and currently serves as the western sales manager. He and his wife, Judith, reside in Fayetteville and enjoy time with their family, including four grandchildren.
