Mission Statement and Information Policy: The Poultry Federation Lab helps reduce losses to farmers and processors by providing accountable, accessible, and accurate laboratory testing services to veterinarians and flock managers.
First and foremost, we hope we can be of service to you.
The Poultry Federation has operated a blood testing laboratory for over 45 years. We serve at the pleasure of our clients by cheerfully providing necessary services at an economical price. We assess our performance through continued patronage, feedback (solicited and unsolicited), and year end bottom-line profitability.
By the nature of our work, we only have access to a portion of the information in the overall disease-control process. It is our goal to provide useful information to flock managers and their veterinarians. An accurate diagnosis requires an examination of the animal(s) and the environment by a trained veterinarian along with proper interpretation of laboratory results. The veterinarian with a direct responsibility for the flock is uniquely qualified to interpret the lab results or give advice on treatment, vaccination, and disease control practices.
The Poultry Federation Lab is obligated to report certain findings to the State Veterinarian’s Office and/or the NPIP Official State Agency. When we provide this information, it is value neutral, with the understanding that our role is to provide laboratory results and not to make official or clinical diagnoses. We believe the dialogue between the flock owners, veterinarian of record, and regulatory officials is the most important facet in the diagnosis of program diseases. We will ship samples for additional testing at the request of the client. Ownership and control of the samples remains with the submitter. The Poultry Federation Lab makes no claim to the intellectual property or future product development subsequent to work-up of any samples.
As a service to the industry, The Poultry Federation Lab publishes a Disease Alert whenever a flock owner or regulatory official instructs us to do so. Disease Alerts are published in a timely manner by e-mail. They do not substitute for telephone and face-to-face discussions between parties that have a stake in the decision-making process. We do not publish Disease Alerts based on laboratory results, alone.
The Poultry Federation Lab also offers the services of flock inspections, audits, sample packing and shipping. We procure and sell supplies that are of use to poultry farmers and are constantly researching new services in an effort to meet the current and future needs of our clients.
